When we have doubts... Look up in the dictionary!

 Resultado de imagen de dictionary

Today in the English classroom it happened something extraordinary. A student said she did not agree with the teacher. GREAT!!!! I'm happy because it means she was thinking and she was listening to me :)

The case was with the word "NEWS". Although it seems plural, it is treated as singular. Why? It's an exception to the rule, no more.

In future cases (and I hope there are going to be more cases in which you have doubts ;) ) you can use these reference websites:

- Wordreference Dictionary and forums (http://forum.wordreference.com/threads/everyone-is-news-is-singular-vs-plural.1911560/)
- Merrian-Webster (http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/news)
- Collins Dictionary (http://www.collinsdictionary.com/dictionary/english/news)

Could you explain what happens with "MATHS"? ;)

Modal verbs

  1. May, might and could
  2. Should and shouldn't
  3. Must and musn't

Should and shouldn't game 2:

How do we pronounce the -ed sound?

Have a look at this fantastic resource.

  Present perfect

We use this tense

1) To talk about something that happened during a period of time that is not finished.

2) For something we have done several times in the past and it continues.

3) For something that happened in the past but is important in the present.

Plural nouns

There are four rules:

1) Add -s at the end.
2) Add -es at the end.
3) Change -y to -ies.
4) Irregular plurals:

Why do we add S to some words but ES to others? And when a word ends with Y, how do we know whether to change the Y to I before adding the plural suffix? And why on earth does knife become knives? You can unravel these mysteries with six simple rules.:

    Hasta mañana, ;)
P.D: By the way, it is said: "I'm sorry" and the correct sentence would be "I'm sorry for what happened before".

      Best wishes!
